Time to Focus

My eyes have been bothering me for the past several months and I’ve noticed that my vision isn’t what it used to be. I find myself squinting while watching TV and we have a pretty big one. Road signs are harder to read and if it’s raining at night, I have to start praying. I was beginning to think it was eye strain because I work at a computer all day but I visited the eye doctor today, just in case.

Turns out, I’m nearsighted.

That sucks. What is funny, is that I used to really want glasses when I was younger. So much so, that I made my parents pay for an expensive trip to the eye doctor and tried to fake the doctor out. She was smarter than I was and put fake glasses on me while asking if my vision got better. I said yes and she and my mom just smiled. So embarrassing.

And by the way, the puff of air was not that bad. :)

I’m A Swiper

I’ve become a cashless guy. I use my debit card for everything. It’s so easy and you can track your spending online. It just makes sense. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I had the paper stuff in my wallet. Except today.

Today I found myself with some cash money. I decided to use it to pay for my lunch at the Zaxby’s drive-thru. I give them a ten and they hand me back my change along with my food. Juggling the bag, drink, cash and coins, the change goes rolling onto the floorboard. I try to stuff the cash into my wallet and all my receipts come flying out. I drive away still trying to get my coins and almost wreck. I give up and throw the wallet on the seat next to me, dollar bills still hanging out, frustrated as heck.

So I wrote a short poem:

I hate cash.
It’s such a pain in the…ash.

Okay, so I’m not a good poet but you get my point. Am I alone here? Paper or plastic?

Mixed Thoughts

I don’t know how long they have had this, but it’s a new discovery for me. Starbucks has made available free weekly music downloads. I love these and picked up the latest from Adele today. I found Adele a couple of months ago and have enjoyed all of her songs so far. You should check her music out.

Yesterday was a technical nightmare for our Sunday service. Even if everything wasn’t noticed by the audience, there were some major ones. One is too many for me and my mind is swirling with ideas on how we can fix these problems in the future. That’s ALL I will say about this matter. :)

Last night I had a crazy dream that I was involved in a hostage situation at Buckhead Church. There were a lot of gunmen and we eventually had an amazing escape plan that involved some guns of our own. It was pretty intense!

Those are my mixed thoughts for today. What’s the craziest dream you’ve had?

If this happened to me, I think the maximum amount of time it would take me to start worrying is four hours. I used to be scared of elevators and planes, but now I love both. Weird.

Two days is a long time.

Wimpy Horns

by Stephen 1 Comment »

Some car horns have the power to bring an 18 wheeler to it’s knees. They sound like a chorus of gorillas and all within earshot suddenly begin shaking. These horns are manly.

Not my car.

My horn causes one to expect a bunch of clowns to jump out. It’s as if the manufacturer recorded a baby’s sneeze and installed it on my car as a cruel joke. Today, I had to blow my horn as several cars were running a red light while my light was green. It was to say, “Hey! Be more safe, I’m trying to turn.” Instead it came out, “Hey. I just ran over a duck and it’s dying underneath my hood.” It just doesn’t have the same effect.

Next time I’ll just give the Hawaiian good luck sign.

Cracked

These Ray Ban sunglasses were a graduation gift in 2004 from my friends in California. They were one of my most prized possessions simply because of the sentimental value they hold (and they looked darn good on me). I’m not sure how or when, but the nosepiece broke off and now the glasses are unwearable. I kept trying to adjust them this morning while I was driving and couldn’t figure out why they wouldn’t fit right. I’m learning to not hold on to my “stuff” as much and I guess this is my latest lesson. Oh well, I’m off to find a cheap replacement until I can buy a new pair.

My Ears Are Bleeding

I’ve got to say that I have been loving our new series at In Focus, “Empty Pockets.” Brent is doing an awesome job on this financial series. We’ve moved our offering to the end and I think it does wonders with the flow of service. And if you ever wanted to know what it would sound like if the audio was turned up to maximum, you got to experience that in yesterday’s service. If you’re not one of the lucky ones who experienced a mild heart attack, consider yourself blessed. Someone was climbing into the lighting box and slipped into the audio guy’s hand which was resting on the volume control. Well, his hand slipped up and everyone peed their pants. Good times. Fortunately, it was spring break and everyone was attending Bedside Baptist. We’ll interpret their dreams next week.

Since we are in a series on finances, I decided to do my taxes a day earlier this year…today! I procrastinate because I am one of the blessed individuals who gets to pay at the end of the year. Whoooppeee!

Did anyone else have to pay this year?

After my web host unexpectedly dropped my last blog, I’m back. It took them a while to fix the problem which explains my long absence from the blogging world. So, I have a fresh new look and a clean slate to start documenting and sharing my life in the most authentic way possible. I’ve been inspired by a few good blogs that I’ve been reading lately and my favorites are listed in my sidebar- check them out.

This is all you get for today. I’ve been setting this thing up all afternoon.

peace.
