I’ve been thinking lately, why do you pray for your food? Is it to thank God for his provision, to pray that all the salmonella will be destroyed from your tomatoes, or what? Do you pray before you eat?
I’m tired of praying without meaning it. Religious jargon often gets mingled in with a couple of words that are passed off as “prayers.” I’d rather save my breath for when there is conviction and passion behind what I say. That’s all.

Sometimes I do it with the same sincerity I reserve for when I say thank you when someone holds the door for me.
If I’m with friends, I give thanks for the moment to share.
If I’m eating fast food, I’m asking for God’s mercy.

This is funny bc I was thinking about this recently. Ive noticed that I pray for my food at home and at restaurants when Im with my wife, but when Im alone I often forget to do it. Why? Not sure. But I know when Im with her I try to make the prayer count, not just repetition.

I think praying for my big mac is just asking God to harden my arteries at a faster pace.

just what we were talking about the other night at pf changs. similar to telling your soul to rise up and praise the LORD (because it just doesn’t come natural) you sometimes have to do things that may not be the natural outflow of your nature. when i stop to pray, i’m acknowledging that it is still God who supplies the food (through whatever tangled web of delivery, preparation and purchasing). if i race through — i somehow begin to tell myself that i really can provide for myself. for me, praying before food is putting focus and perspective where it should be. e
